Episode 3 – The school play
ELLIE: Thanks again for helping us, Ruby.
RUBY: That’s OK. But I’m really nervous.
TOM: It’s a small part. Here are your lines. There aren’t many.
RUBY: There are lots of lines. This is terrible! The play is only three days from now!
TOM: Don’t worry. We’re here to help you.
ELLIE: Let’s practise every day. Look …
TOM: Action!
ELLIE: Stop! Who are you and what do you want?
RUBY: I’m just a girl from the ... from the ...
ELLIE: village.
RUBY: … village. I want to speak to ... to … with ... uh …
ELLIE: the king.
RUBY: … the king. I want to speak to the king.
This is no good. I’m terrible. I really don’t think I can do this.
ELLIE: You aren’t terrible. You’re great. And you can do it.
RUBY: I don’t know.
TOM: Don’t worry. Let’s start again.
RUBY: … speak to the king. My name is May, and I want you to ask me ... I mean … I want you ... me ... Oh I don’t know! This is bad. And I’m terrible!
ELLIE: No, you aren’t. You’re just nervous. Relax!
RUBY: I just can’t get it right.
ELLIE: Come on, Ruby. You can do this.
RUBY: I’m just so nervous.
TOM: I know, it’s OK. Really. Now, let’s start again. And action!
RUBY: Here I am.
ELLIE: Hi, Ruby. It’s your big day. Are you excited?
RUBY: No, just nervous. But let’s do it.
TOM: Thanks, Ruby. You really are the best.
DAN: Hi, guys.
ELLIE: Why are you so happy?
DAN: I’ve got some good news for Ruby.
RUBY: For me? What is it?
DAN: It’s Anna Williams. She’s better.
RUBY: Better?
DAN: Yes. She isn’t ill now. And she wants to be in the play.
RUBY: Really?
DAN: Yes, really. Isn’t that great?!
RUBY: No! No, that isn’t great!
TOM: What? You aren’t happy about this?
RUBY: No, I’m not!
ELLIE: But, you’re so nervous and …
RUBY: Yes, but, well, it’s my part now. I’m in the play, not Anna.
TOM: Sorry, Ruby, but it really is her part, so…
DAN: Come on, Ruby. Let’s go and watch the play. We can sit together.
RUBY: But I know all the lines. Listen! I’m just a girl from the village. I want to speak to the king! See! I know it! It’s my part! I’m the girl from the village! Guys? Hey, guys! Wait for me!
