FATHER: I think so. I got here a little while ago. They phoned me at work and I came straight here. She's with the doctor now.

MEGAN: What happened?

FATHER: I told you on the phone. She was doing some cleaning upstairs in the house …

Scene 3

FATHER: … and she fell down the stairs. But she had her phone with her and she called for help. That's all I know, really. Come on, let's go and see her.

Scene 4

MEGAN: Oh, poor thing. A broken ankle. Well, she'll be home tomorrow.

FATHER: That's right. Then a few days at home. I'll make sure she rests.

MEGAN: But Dad? What about your business trip? Isn't it important?

FATHER: Yes, but I can't go now. Someone has to look after your mother – and you. What about dinner and things?

MEGAN: Don't be silly, Dad. I'm here, I'll look after things. I can do the cooking and everything.

FATHER: Really? Are you sure, Megan?

MEGAN: Of course.

FATHER: But what about school?

MEGAN: Dad – it's half-term, remember?

FATHER: Oh yes, of course. I completely forgot. Thanks, Megan. And Megan? I'm really sorry. I mean, for all the shouting lately.

MEGAN: Oh, Dad. It's OK. I know you're worried about things.

FATHER: That's true, but I was wrong, and I'm sorry.

OLIVIA: Megan! Hey – so tell us! How's your mum?

MEGAN: Well, she'll be in hospital until tomorrow.

RYAN: Good.

MEGAN: But it was a shock, the phone call.

OLIVIA: Well, of course.

MEGAN: The good thing is, my dad and I talked and he said he was sorry ….

MEGAN: About shouting at me all the time, and things.

RYAN: Is he still going on that business trip?

MEGAN: Yeah, I told him I can look after Mum and the house and everything.

LUKE: Good for you, Meg.

MEGAN: But it means I can't go out with you guys on Friday.

RYAN: That's a shame. But I'm really glad you and your dad are friends again.

RYAN: I suppose, in the end, parents are just people too.

OLIVIA: Yeah. They have good days and bad days.

MEGAN: But sometimes with more problems.

RYAN: But at least they have some money.

Changing bodies

A long time ago, people were very different from the way we are now. For example, if you find a really old house somewhere, you'll see that the doors are usually much lower than they are today. Why? Because hundreds of years ago, people were shorter. Over time, the human body changes to adapt to a new way of life.

Can we expect the human body to change in the future? For sure. And the main reason is that we have more and more technology, and it is changing how we live.

What kind of changes can we expect? Well, no one can be 100 per cent sure, but here are some possibilities.

Let's start with the example above. Humans are now ten centimetres taller than 150 years ago. So, in the future, people will probably be even taller. Most of us now have much better food than people in the past – and so we grow more.

We'll get weaker in more than one way. The most important way is that our muscles will not be as strong as now because we won't do a lot of physical work.

We are already using our feet less, and our hands more (think about computers and tablets and so on.) So we can expect that our legs will get shorter and our feet smaller, and at the same time, our fingers will get longer. And our fingers and our eyes will both get better, because they'll have to do more work together.

Now, what about the mouth? It'll get smaller, perhaps, because technological improvements will mean that we don't need to talk so much – and also because our teeth will get smaller (so mouths don't need to be so big to keep them in).

And last but not least – people won't have as much hair on their bodies as now, as we don't need it to keep ourselves warm any more.

Here's a good one – it's very possible that people will have four toes, not five. The little toe really isn't needed any more (people who lose them don't miss them) so it will probably disappear some time in the future.

Will all these things happen? And if so, when? These are questions that no one can answer for sure.

Losing things ... and finding them again!

If you are one of those people who often lose things, you'll be happy with an invention that will soon become very popular – or so experts think. The Things Spotter will allow you to find everything, from your wallet to your cat. It'll look like a small key tag that you can put on your wallet or your cat, and it won't cost a lot. The tag will be connected to your mobile phone via BlueTooth technology. When you lose something, you'll press a button on your mobile and a map on your screen will tell you where to look.

Charging your phone in the wilderness

Imagine going camping in the wilderness. You have no electricity, and you need to make an urgent phone call. The batteries on your mobile are empty. Some engineers are working on a Fire Recharger. It turns heat from fire into electricity. This means you will be able to charge your empty batteries if you use a small gas fire, or even a wood campfire. When this gadget is in the shops, it'll be good to have at home too. It'll help people to stay in contact, even if there are power cuts, for example because of heavy storms.

Don't you love them too – those colourful underwater photos of tropical fish and coral reefs? But these photos are not easy to take. Underwater photography is an expensive hobby, and good equipment is also very, very heavy. But heavy underwater cameras will soon be a thing of the past. Changing bodies

Can we expect the human body to change in the future? For sure. And the main reason is that we have more and more technology, and it is changing how we live.

What kind of changes can we expect? Well, no one can be 100 per cent sure, but here are some possibilities.

We'll get weaker in more than one way. The most important way is that our muscles will not be as strong as now because we won't do a lot of physical work.
