INTERVIEWER: Rachel, you study at home and don't go to school with other children, is that right?
RACHEL: Yes, that's right, I have a normal timetable from nine o'clock until three o'clock - but at home, not in a classroom in a school.
INTERVIEWER: Have you got a tutor?
RACHEL: No! I choose what to study with my mum. Then, we buy the books online.
INTERVIEWER: So what do you do?
RACHEL: Well, I do a lot of projects. I find information on the Internet and I also use home education websites.
INTERVIEWER: But isn't it boring studying at home?
RACHEL: No, not at all because I do projects I like. I can watch documentaries on TV or online. And I live near London so I can go to museums. They've got special activities for teenagers so you can learn a lot!
INTERVIEWER: But you can't do PE at home. What about exercise?
RACHEL: I go to a sports centre with a group of other children who also learn at home.
INTERVIEWER: What are your favourite subjects?
RACHEL: History – I love it! And ICT. I do computer courses at the library in my town. They're for adults, but I do them too.
INTERVIEWER: What do you like about home education?
RACHEL: Umm, I really like it because I can study interesting things, and I can study when I want. And I don't wear a uniform.
INTERVIEWER: And is there anything you don't like?
RACHEL: Well, I haven't got a science lab to do experiments. My mum says I can't do them here - it's dangerous!
